Inside Journalism: A Conversation with NPR’s Robin Young and the NY Times’ Zolan Kanno-Youngs

"Inside Journalism: A Conversation with NPR’s Robin Young and the NY Times’ Zolan Kanno-Youngs" will be moderated by Sophia Dasser ’28, Editor-in-Chief of the Cornell Daily Sun. The conversation will explore careers in journalism today in both print and broadcast media and will be followed by a Q&A with the audience. Young is the host of NPR’s “Here & Now,” which features interviews on culturally relevant and breaking news. The show is produced at WBUR in Boston. Young has also been a correspondent for ABC, NBC, CBS, and the Discovery Channel. She has received five Emmy Awards for excellence in broadcasting as well as multiple other awards for her work. She is also a documentary filmmaker, and received a Peabody Award for her film “The Los Altos Story,” on the impact of HIV/AIDS. Young holds a Bachelor’s degree from Ithaca College. Kanno-Youngs joined the New York Times in 2019 to cover the Department of Homeland Security, breaking stories on the detention of migrants, immigration enforcement, the Secret Service, protests and the Trump administration’s response to national emergencies. He joined the White House beat in 2021, and sometimes travels with the president and vice president. Although based in the Washington bureau, Kanno-Youngs has reported from more than two dozen countries. Before joining The Times, Kanno-Youngs covered criminal justice and the New York Police Department for The Wall Street Journal. He is a graduate of Northeastern University. Dasser ’28 is double majoring in computer science and philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences. She is the editor-in-chief of the 144th Editorial Board of The Cornell Daily Sun and she previously served as the opinion editor of the 143rd Editorial Board. Dasser is a Milstein Scholar in Technology and Humanity, a Laidlaw Research Scholar and a Junior Fellow at the Cornell Brooks Tech Policy Institute, where her research focuses on AI governance. She serves as an Interfaith Ambassador on campus.
